Smokefree and Smoking Cessation Training
Cessation Training for Healthcare workers - 1 day theory + 1 day follow up support
Training Focus
- Strong emphasis on how to work with and for Pacific people - using the ABC approach in supporting quit attempts
- Registration with the Quit Group to become Quit Card providers to access the subsidized Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT)
The training is based on the Revised New Zealand Smoking Cessation Guidelines 2007
Training Goals
- Support healthcare workers to confidently work with Pacific people and regularly offer and provide ABC
- Encourage the use of recommended approaches/tools in determining nicotine dependence
- Participants are able to prescribe appropriate and subsidized Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in supporting quit attempts

Tobacco Control Training for Community Groups
The Pacific Heartbeat also provide:
- Short education and awareness workshops for community groups (churches, workplaces and other similar community groups)
- From these the community group then select community champions to be trained in smoking cessation to provide brief advice and help their Communities access services that can support smokers in their quit attempts.
