There is nothing positive about smoking:
  • Smoking quadruples the risk of cardiovascular disease
  • Smokers die on average 14 years ealier than non-smokers
  • 5000 people die in New Zealand each year from many smoking related illnesses
  • Almost 1 in 4 Pacific adults in New Zealand smoke [29%]
  • $72million is spent each year by Pacific people in New Zealand on tobacco products.

 

 

 

Pacific Heatbeat works with Pacific communites to raise the awareness of the dangers of smoking and the benefits of being smokefree.

We offer a Pacific Smokefree Promotion Short Course at no charge for health promoters and community groups working in Pacific settings.

  Topics covered in this short course include:
  • Profile of Pacific people in New Zealand
  • Health effects of smoking on Pacific people
  • Health promotion in Pacific communities
  • Finding and sharing solutions using Pacific models.
  Families are Pacific Treasures.

   You can help Pacific families enjoy smokefree life and:

  • Lead longer and healthier lives
  • Have less risk of diseases, particularly heart disease
  • Decrease the potentially damaging effects of second-hand smoke on children and non-smokers
  • Save money.

 

 
Training of 2 Modules over 2 Days:

Course is FREE for Public Heath and Community Health Workers
Venue: Heart Foundation, Seminar Room, 9 Kalmia Street, Ellerslie, Auckland - or we could do the training at your site.
